How the Download Works

Once your order has been processed, you will receive an email with a link to your download.

Time limit: You have one week to complete the download, and after that time your ability to download will expire. Your download privileges may be renewed for a short time, however, in the event that  your hard disk contents are lost. Please do back up your installation package to a CD if possible, for archival purposes.

Installation Instructions for Download File

The default location for the files after they are decompressed is:

             c:\Program Files\Jans CompLit 101 (for English)

             c:\Archivos de progama\Jan's CompLit 101 (for Spanish)

Autoinstall: When you download the lessons, choose Open in the download dialog. The lessons will be extracted from the compressed file and saved to the default location, unless you change the location in the dialog.

Install later: Choose Save if you want to save the download file itself. You may see the choice to Run the file after it is saved. Choosing that will autoinstall the lessons, as above. Otherwise, you will have to extract the files later, by double-clicking the downloaded file in a My Computer or Explorer window.

Note: If your computer treats a zipped/compressed file as a folder, your lessons will not work until after you extract them all. Right click on the icon for the file that you downloaded and choose Extract All.

Start the lessons: Navigate to the folder where you installed the lessons, and double-click the file index.html. This opens an intro page with links to the English and Spanish lessons.

Broken links: Links will not work to parts that are not part of your purchase. You must purchase the English and Spanish versions separately. Link to those lessons will not work unless you have purchased and installed those lessons.
Click on the language link. This opens the pages that are just like what you see on the web site.

Broken link: Working with Databases is a separate purchase. The link to those lessons won't work unless you purchased and installed them.

Shortcut: You can make a shortcut to the first page, or any other page in the lessons. Find the HTML page in a My Computer or Explorer window. Right drag from the file to the desktop on your screen. You can rename the shortcut without affecting the actual file name.

Remember: If your download contains only one set of lessons, the links to different lessons will not work on the hard disk unless you purchased other lessons and installed them to the correct folder.

Merging downloads purchased separately: Install to the same folder in order for the links between them to work.
