The labeled figure below of a My Computer window shows the Large Icon view, the default view.  Each type of file has its own icon image. Special areas like the Control Panel and the Recycle Bin have their own icons.

Folders are listed first, then files. The Large and Small Icon views list items alphabetically going across the window.  The List and Details views list items alphabetically down the column.

Icon - IE/Win98 Internet Explorer 4 and Win98 add another view type - the Web view. The difference is that the things in the window are treated as hyperlinks, like on a web page. A single click will open the folder or document instead of needing to double-click. Just pointing to a file or folder selects it and changes the pointer to a hand pointing. This makes some actions easier, but others harder. You'll have to try it out to see if the web view fits your working style.
