Introduction

IE4 introduces the use of filters to achieve special effects on both images and text. Some of the effects cannot be done with scripts alone.

Filters can be applied only to HTML objects - that is, the thing filtered must have WIDTH and/or HEIGHT set.

Many filters will increase the size of the item to which they are applied. So when applying a filter, you may need to add blank space to your image or other object or else the effect will be cut off. Transparency is needed for some effects.

Return to the list of Filters to see what effects are available. Click on a filter type and an example will appear in a new window. Once the page is loaded, the new window will popup on top. An image of the effect is usually included along with proper syntax and explanations of the attributes.

As a point of interest, if you are viewing these pages with NC4, that browser apparently tosses out objects that have script associated with them that NC4 doesn't understand. Many of the filter pages have buttons to click that run the filters. NC4 doesn't display them, nor any text that has a style containing filters! But images are displayed, even though a filter is in the styling. Images of the effects are included on most pages so you can see what it would should like anyway.
