What and Where are the Resource Files?

Download now: resources-databases.zip OR  resources-databases.exe.

When the lessons refer to resource files, it means the files that you need to create the documents in the projects or to example databases. These are available in two ways:

Icon: ProblemYou chose Open instead of Save: The file is downloaded to a temporary location on your computer. Any changes that you make will be saved to this temporary copy. It will be hard to find again!
Solution: Use the command File | Backup Database... to save a copy of the database to your Class disk. Then close the temporary copy and open the one you just saved.

Image files: Choose Save when downloading an image file.
If you choose Open for an image file, the image will open in a graphics program.

Ask your instructor if these files are already on your computer and, if so, where.

Download Instructions:

To get these resource files, Left click click on one of the links above to download either a zipped set of files (if you have WinZip or similar software for the PC) or a self-extracting file which will extract the compressed files for you. (Some folks are intimidated by the exe extension... and for good reason! This one is safe.)

A download dialog will appear. Choose "Save this program to a disk." Choose a folder on your hard drive for the file to be downloaded into.

After the file is downloaded, you need to extract the compressed files. If you downloaded the zip version, use your WinZip or similar program to do this. If you downloaded the exe version, find the file in an Explorer or My Computer window and then double-click on it, resources-databases.exe.

By default, the uncompressed files will be put in c:\My Documents\complit101\databases\. Of course you can choose a different location if you wish. Just be sure to remember where you put the files.

The resource files that are Access databases in Access 2000 format so that students using versions of Access since Access 2000 can use the same files. You can save the documents that you create or edit in whichever file format suits your word processor.
