Project 1: Word Basics
Exercise Word 1-1

Title: Jan's Illustrated Computer Literacy 101
Did you want: Working with Words: Word 2007,2010,2013,2016 or españolIcon: Change web

You need to use what you just learned, and maybe learn a little more. Complete all parts of the following exercises. Don't forget to backup your Class disk when you have completed the exercises or whenever you stop for the day.

These exercises use files from the word resource files. The default location for these files is c:\My Documents\complit101\words\ You cannot make changes to these files and save them in the same place. Save the changed documents to your Class disk. This keeps the original resource files intact in case you need to start over or another student will be using this same computer.

In future lessons you will see the same fictional organizations and people that you meet in these exercises: The City Theater, the City Soccer Team, and Computers Today. For exercise 4 you get to suit yourself.

You should see a wavy red line underneath some of the words. If you don't, you'll have to turn on the automatic spelling check feature.  Tools  |  Options...  |  Spelling and Grammar  |  Automatic Spelling Checking

Word will likely mark "Evita" and "Sofich" as possible errors. They are correct. Do not add to the dictionary these names that Word marks as possible spelling errors.

  3. Look for errors that Word missed- there are at least two. Word can't tell when you've just typed the wrong word!
  4. Open the header and type your name, two spaces, insert the date, press TAB twice, and type  Exercise Word 1-1
  5. Class disk Save as  flyer-The City Theater.doc  to your Class disk in the  word project1  folder, using the file format that matches the version of Word you are using.
